Greetings everyone! Today was my first complete day in Lagos, Portugal. A long anticipated holiday after a full, exciting and productive term.
It’s been nearly two years since I last posted and I hope to rectify that during my few days here by sharing a few short posts reflecting on my time here.
This morning was spent in the sun on the balcony with a breakfast of pastries from the patisserie in the square where we are staying. As the clouds rolled in we headed to the supermarket to set ourselves up for the week, then camped in for an afternoon of reading and movies, red wine and pasta. It’s been a lovely first day!
As an activist, the discipline of accepting things as they are, for what they are is a hard one to cultivate. It would be easy to be disappointed with the weather and frustrated at my tiredness that requires rest rather than activity. However with acceptance and welcome have come the ability to be present and responsive; to capture a rainbow on the roof and laugh till the tears rolled down my face at the efforts of a man trying to feed a rescue penguin.
I am grateful for today and all that it has brought me.
