At church this week, a colleague of mine brought the word as we prepared for communion. He reminded us of the power of kindness. There have been times this week when my frustrations have got the better of me and I haven’t been kind. I simply haven’t done the work to be patient in the moment and discern the right response. I find patience a slippery skill to master, and yet its probably the key to being a disciple of Jesus – managing myself and finding his way whether that’s at home, at work or at play. Discernment takes patience; knowing how to respond takes patience. Love is patient, love is kind. When I am being impatient and frustrated, I am not a nice or kind person to be around.
I like to complicate life and make it about godly dreams and strategies and projects, but in reality its pretty basic. How am I going at being loving? Jean Vanier wrote ‘ to love someone is to show them their beauty, their worth and their importance’. I have a way to go yet! But I am grateful I have a Counselor and Coach living in me and walking with me, training and transforming me.
