when you tell me who you are…

When you tell me who you are, I want to be known for who I am. When you tell me who you are – not who you wish you were, or who you think I want you to be, or even who God made you to be – but who you are now; it helps me to know that its OK to be on the journey. When you tell me what the road is like for you, where you tripped and where you feared, where you won and where you stood firm; it gives me courage to look around and name my own road. When you can say that you are not who you were or yet who you will be but you are somewhere on the journey between the two; it helps me know that I am not alone on this bewildering road called ‘my life’.

And when I know at the core of who I am, that beyond everything I am seen and loved enough to have been rescued and adopted, I can tell you who I am and where I am and know that it is all I have to give – a priceless gift that will bring you life.

Inspired by my journey with the team here in Cape Town who in the midst of the grand dreams and the day to day grind are discovering what authentic fellowship is about.

  1. Di Adams says:

I guess that’s pretty much what life is like – the destination is only part of the equation. What we do, who we are, what we share both materially and of ourselves along the way is what marks us. We all have unresolved stuff, none of us are perfect, we’re all still a work in progress, having all the answers isn’t always as important as asking the questions.
